ABOUT UNITY COLLEGE

Unity College is an independent special needs school based at 126 Cedar Road, Fourways, Johannesburg. The College was established in August 1990, when a group of parents recognized the need to create a school for learners who are mildly to moderately intellectually challenged. Although the learners are considered disabled each child is so much more than the label of their difficulty.

Learners entering Unity College have delayed scholastic ability and perform below their chronological age in various school subjects. The College caters for students from 6 – 20 years.

Each child has the potential to learn but often the learning potential is more of a practical ability and learners excel using their hands and from practising skills. Thus in the senior phase vocational training is offered.

We currently have just over 100 pupils in our school. Due to the high support needs of our learners, our pupil teacher ratio is low. Click here to view our pupil population graph for details on who we cater for.

Our staff comprises of qualified Educators, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, a Counsellor and a Psychologist. Class sizes are small to cater for individual needs and to promote the full potential of each child.

Unity College is committed to equipping each learner with skills to become a productive, integrated member of society.

Unity College is accredited by UMALUSI (Council for Quality Assurance) Click here to view the Umalusi report.
