ABOUT UNITY COLLEGE   senior leavers

Legally, special needs learners should remain at school until the December of their 18 th year. Parents often ask “What happens to my child when they turn 18 ? There is no one correct answer. One has to remember that whilst a young person may be 18 in years, the child’s mental and emotional age may not be at the same level. Recommendations for alternative placement, further studies or opportunities for work are carefully considered in the senior phase. Obviously we take into account the young persons dreams, wishes and capability when making a recommendation.

Work Opportunities : 3 learners

Nursery school assistant / butcher / shop assistant

Further Studies (2010) : 7 learners

Living Link (Independent living) (3), Atholhurst (3) and Damelin(1).
