SURVEY RESULTS 2008 UNITY COLLEGE

GENERAL SUMMARY
During the course of 2008, Unity undertook a complete school survey. The questionnaire was adapted to the various levels within the school. Surveyed groups included:
- Juniors – 4
- Intermediates 1 – 4
- Intermediates 5 – Senior 3
- Parents / Guardians
- Governing Body
- Staff, and
- Management
Learners Survey:
By far, the majority of learners are happy, feel positive about school and feel they are learning. Bullying occurs primarily noted within the Intermediate Phase of the school. This result needs to be interpreted with caution, as our Juniors may not be able to label the concept and bullying within the upper Intermediates and Seniors becomes subversive. This does not mean that bullying is not occurring merely that it was not reflected upon or the Seniors learn how to deal with it. The school implemented a CARE-FUL school campaign, in which learners were taught to identify and act on various behaviours.
Red , Say “No” to hurtful behaviour.
Yellow for thinking about our behaviour and choosing Green
Green for doing the right thing. The value of this initial survey has been to benchmark the effectiveness of the school’s full of care programme. A number of goals have already been addressed according to the detailed survey results.
Parent Survey:
The majority of parents who responded to the questionnaire are happy their child is at Unity. A variety of suggestions and ideas around the new school were given.
Governing Body Survey:
The Governing Body could use additional help but people are reluctant to volunteer. Communication from the Board to parents is in the process of being addressed. Fund raising is very necessary in the light of the new school.
Staff Survey:
The majority of staff felt positive about working at Unity. Brainstorming needs to occur around the development of leadership within the school and curriculum innovation and development. The management team felt that they are committed to achieving with their learners, the phase teams work with professional competence. Goals identified are being addressed.
